A Manual On How To Make An Outline For An APA Style Research Paper

A research paper in the APA style is the easiest thing that you can do, as long as you pay attention to the requirements. You have to know that every single detail matters, and only because you have a good topic it does not matter that you can neglect anything else. To make things even simpler for you, you can create an outline and write your composition based on it. Here’s a manual on how to do it:

  • Make research. Once you have your topic, you have to be sure that you know everything there is about it. It will take a few hours until you gather all the information, but it will be worth it in the end. Make sure that you write on a separate piece of paper the main ideas that you want to explore, so you can arrange them using the outline.
  • Arrange the main ideas in a logic and chronologic order. It is important to make sure that your paper is not only interesting, but only logic. It’s very easy to arrange your ideas as long as you take into consideration their importance and relevance to the main subject. For example, you can’t put the main points in the beginning, because no one will be motivated to read your composition after that.
  • Decide how many chapters you want to have. This depends entirely on your preferences and how many pages your composition has. If you don’t have more than 2 or three pages, you can’t exactly create 10 chapters because it will be senseless and confusing for the reader. Also, make sure that you ask your professor if he has any preferences regarding this.
  • Choose nice titles for the chapters. When a stranger will look at your outline, he needs to be able to find the information that he wants quickly. This means that the titles needs to be short and relevant to the content, not unknown terms that your colleagues can’t understand.
  • Correct, edit and verify everything. It’s not difficult to create an outline, but many students think that this element is not important. Actually, if your professor will find spelling mistakes in your outline he will assume that you also have them in your main composition, and he will search for them. Take a few minutes to read your outline and correct the mistakes if it’s the case.
